Regions inhabited with Albanians, with the lowest living standard
Drilon Iseni, director of the Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia, says for Radio Free Europe that more and more unequal development is being expressed in the eight regions of North Macedonia.
“Our concern as a Chamber is that in the future, if this trend of disproportionate development of the regions continues, whole North Macedonia will become Skopje and Skopje as the capital will be the whole North Macedonia. “For this purpose, the state must intervene as soon as possible to put an end to this phenomenon”, says Iseni.
He says that in order not to have a gap between the regions, the laws in force must be implemented. According to the Law on Equal Regional Development, 1 percent of Gross Domestic Product should be invested in equitable regional development, which is worth approximately 100 million euros, while the highest value of investments by the state in this policy does not reach even 11 percent of this legal value “, says Iseni.
