Sparks 2024 Forum: Promoting sustainable development and regional cooperation in the Western Balkans

The Sparks 2024 Forum is the main event for all those committed to sustainable development and regional cooperation in the Western Balkans. Held under the support of UNMIK, this forum brought together various leaders from the fields of politics, business, education and civil society to discuss and formulate strategies for the future.

The Executive Director of ECNWM, Mr. Durim Zekiri, was invited as a panelist to discuss on the topic “Peace through connection and development”. During his speech, Mr. Zekiri emphasized the importance of genuine infrastructural connection between neighboring countries as a prerequisite for cooperation and economic development. He emphasized that without a strong and interconnected infrastructure, economic and trade progress between the countries of the Western Balkans is impossible.

Mr. Zekiri also emphasized the need for harmonization of legislation in the region. “In order to facilitate cooperation and create a common market, it is essential that our countries harmonize their legislations”, which will enable an easier commercial exchange and eliminate the obstacles that currently prevent the development of a common and integrated market.

The Executive Director also discussed the importance of trade and labor exchange. He emphasized that an open market and the empowerment of the free movement of labor will lead to faster economic growth and a significant improvement in the well-being of citizens throughout the region.

Also, the President of the Pan Albanian Economic Forum, Mr. Nagib Fejzi attended, who in his speech emphasized that energies should be focused on the younger generations, mentoring and supporting them in overcoming the barriers that hinder regional cooperation.

The Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia is a key factor in promoting economic cooperation and creating opportunities for local businesses to expand and develop. Through its activities, the Chamber can help reduce trade barriers and create a favorable environment for regional economic development.
