A high-level delegation from the Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia, led by the Acting President, Mr. Nuhi Aliu, along with the Executive Director, Mr. Zekiri, the President of the Assembly, the Honorary President, and a member of the Managinng Board, held a working meeting with the President of the Commission for Protection of Competition, Mrs. Malinka Siljanovska Nikolic, and members of this institution – a key body for safeguarding fair competition and the functioning of the market economy, with broad legal powers to prevent monopolistic practices.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform businesses about the legal obligations for the file a notification of concentrationsunder the Competition Protection Law, through an official notice prepared by the Commission to be distributed via the economic chambers, in order to ensure companies are aware of their legal obligations and avoiding sanctions.
ECNWM emphasized the importance of creating a direct communication mechanism and establishing a coordinating body for continuous cooperation. Members raised concerns about enterprises with dominant positions that abuse their advantage, seeking systematic and long-term solutions. Additionally, ECNWM called for full implementation of the Law on the Prohibition of Unfair Commercial Practices – a law for which the Chamber itself was the initiator, as an essential tool for protecting businesses from unfair practices and for creating a fair and functional market.
The President of the Commission expressed readiness for close cooperation, including the involvement of the Chamber’s members in working groups for legal amendments, appreciating their direct experience with market issues.
The Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia has been advocating for years to strengthenstate mechanisms that guarantee a fair and transparent market. The full functioning of monitoring institutions, including the Commission for the Protection of Competition, is a fundamental condition for preventing unfair competition and avoiding unfair market dominance, creating equal conditions for all economic actors and promoting sustainable development.
