ECNWM: Alternative ways need to be found to ensure the implementation of the electoral process without interrupting and damaging the business sector.
ECNWM has reacted to the recent decision of the Government to declare April 24th and May 8th as non-working days for the private sector, considering it harmful for the uninterrupted functionality of businesses, especially those belonging to the production and trade sectors. Private companies should have the opportunity to operate according to their needs, and the decision to declare non-working days without consulting the business community presents an obstacle to their efficient functioning.
This decision, taken preliminarily at the 14th Government Session on April 9, 2024, states that the Government recommends that employers in the private sector in the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia implement these conclusions. However, at the 15th session, the decision is made to declare election days as non-working days for all citizens of Republic North Macedonia, including the private sector.
Therefore, ECNWM calls on the government to reconsider this decision and find alternatives that will support the business community while understanding the importance of the electoral process in the Republic of North Macedonia
